Percy Philips, Jr

Deacon Percy Phillips, Jr. was born on August 1st, 1945, in Demopolis, Alabama to Percy Phillips, Sr. and Lula James permanently relocated to Saint Louis, Missouri, where he attended Saint Louis public School until graduating from O'Fallon Technical high school.

In 1965, he was drafted into the US Army where he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. While serving in the  US Army, he married Jessica Rembert; they were married for eight years. Two children, Karen and Lawrence, were born to this union.

During a long term relationship with Mildred Wilks, who preceded him in death, they had a daughter, Lucretia Wilks.

Percy accepted Christ while attending New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He continued his journey in Christ at Samuel Brown AME Zion Church. While at Samuel Brown, he was part of the trustee board for over twenty-five years. As a Pastor's Steward, he had multiple jobs-from facilitating housing arrangements, handling the churches finances, to personally assist the Pastor's family. He successfully provided relief for members in need; visited the sick at home or at nursing homes. In 2017, he joined Empowerment Christian Church, where he served under the leadership of his son Lawrence Baker, Sr. He served there faithfully as a Deacon and continued to serving as Empowerment merged with Faith Community Bible Church where Michael Byrd, Sr is Lead Pastor.

Percy enjoyed working for the Parkway School District until he retired in 2011 after twenty-five years. Upon retirement, he continued to do volunteer work by feeding the homeless and delivering food for the program Meals On Wheels throughout the community.

On July 6, 2016, Percy accepted the role as a Board Member with Their Future's Bright Child Development Foundation as Treasurer. He was a critical asset in handling fiscal business decisions, keeping the children safe, grounds clean, and ensured the facility remained within state regulations. There was not an area at the facility that he did not build, repair, or help design. Because of his care and diligence, Their Future's Bright never received a bad inspection with the State of Missouri. Percy would always visit with the children, play with them, and allow them to call him Papa. Whether he was giving hugs, or words of wisdom, he was always there to support, guide, and help push Their Future's Bright mission.
