Obituary

Mattie Williams passed away peacefully from this life the morning of December 17, 2022 after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Mattie was born in Woodruff, Arkansas to Fred and Rosie Wright. She accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized.


She is Preceded In Death By: Her husband James Williams Sr. and children Anthony Williams, Shirley Williams, Nicole Williams, Robert Sawyer. Her Daughter-in-law Dorothy Sawyer, Son-in-law, Freddie Robinson. Her Parents- Fred and Rosie Wright and Siblings- Robert Wright, Amentha Mack (Sim Mack) and Helen Conway (Winston Conway).


She later relocated to Memphis, TN and married James Williams Sr. In total she had 12 children and worked as a maid until retirement. She later relocated to Saint Louis, Mo. where she lived the remainder of her life. Mattie loved cooking, taking care of her family and the neighborhood kids. Her doors were always open to people who wanted some good homemade soul food. She was well known for her big heart and always giving, even if it was her last. Her favorite hobby was going to Cambridge Adult Day Care where she spent a lot of time with her best friend Ms. Oases. When her sight declined Ms. Oases became her eyes and she was Ms Oases ears.


She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Odessa Harlston (Michael Harlston Sr.), James Sawyer Sr, Sam Sawyer, Curtis Williams, James Williams, William Williams, Deborah Robinson and Andre Williams.


Grandchildren – Dionne Harlston, Michael Harlston, Nicole Harlston, Lakeesha Williams, Mario Williams, Marquette Williams, Jaime Okhomina (Sunny Okhomina), Marcus Robinson, Jeremy Williams, Jerlisa Williams, Jeremiah Williams, Kim Sawyer, April Stevens (Terrell Stevens), Felicia Sawyer, James Sawyer (Roshundra Sawyer), Deenisha Barnes (Tyquez, Barnes) and Amber Williams.


She had a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws, a brother-in-law and cousins.
