Obituary
Louise Evelyn West Stovall
December 30, 1933 - January 1, 2022
Proud and beloved mother and grandmother. Louise passed away peacefully at her home during the early hours of New Year’s Day, 2022.
Louise was steadfast in her love for her family and friends. Her loss is felt deeply among those who knew her, but the grief we have in our heavy hearts will be supplanted by the memories she provided of caring for others with grace, love, and a wry sense of humor.
Louise led a life that was awe-inspiring. She was an anchor from which her family learned real strength and compassion. She raised seven sons in the housing projects of St. Louis, who all graduated high school. She kept a job during the Jim Crow era, and helped to desegregate her St. Louis neighborhood. Though she was unable to formally fulfill her dream to become a teacher due to financial hardship, her emphasis on reading and education allowed her sons to be successful in life, and her teaching legacy lives on in 2 generations of educators beyond her.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband Charles, whom she married May 10, 1953, her mother and father Arminta and Arthur West, her brother Arthur West Jr., and her special Aunt Francis Johnson. Louise is survived by her seven sons: Charles Junior, Carl (Barbara), Donald (Naomi), Dennis (Pat), William (Kelly), David, and Arthur. She is also survived by her brother Eugene West, niece Tina Brown, her step-daughter Ida Dandridge, grandchildren Jessica, Lee and Daniel (Bridget) Stovall, and Randy & Rodney Wilson and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration her life and internment will take place at a later date.
