Dorothy Mae Thomas

Dorothy Mae Lovelace-Thomas, was born to the union of William James and Claudia Mae Lovelace, in Saint Louis, Missouri on September 26, 1930. Her mother and father, two brothers, William and Warren Gene; two sisters, Ernestine (Mickey) and Elnora (NonaBaby), three grandsons, Darnell, Guilliermo (Pep or Solo) and Darren; one great grandson, Baby Darnell, preceded her in death. Dorothy was the eldest of thirteen children. Her mother and father instilled in them a strong sense of family love and togetherness, and making sure that they all would be lifelong friends and she made sure the same values were instilled in her children. Dorothy was a God fearing and strong believer in God. She grew up in Millcreek area as a child. She was educated in the Saint Louis Public School System. Dorothy was the Matriarch of the Lovelace family, she was known for her strong will and personality and was the one person that anyone in the family could always depend on, no matter what their circumstance were. She was a homemaker, something she enjoyed and took pride in. She loved children and kept herself surrounded with children as much as possible. She opened her arms and home to anyone in need, and always put the need of her children and siblings before her own. Dorothy sacrificed continuing her education so that her siblings and children could continue theirs. Dorothy was a beautiful, strong, disciplinarian who was full of wisdom. She was very intelligent, she demanded that you always show respect to elders and self. She enjoyed playing cards and card parties with family and friends. Family was everything to her. Dorothy was joined in Holy Matrimony at an early age to Herbert Stanley Thomas, Sr. (deceased). From this union they had four children, years later she met Charles Casey (deceased) and gave birth to one child and years after, she met Joseph Young, Sr. (deceased) and together they had four children. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: nine children ~ Barbara (Arthur), Herbert (Anita), Jacqueline (Jackie), Gayvelle (Joe), Rozina (Sterling), Carmenlita (Rickey), Joseph, Josephine and Patricia (Warren "Fe"); one adopted daughter ~ Rochelle (Shelly); one foster daughter ~ Latoya; twenty-four grandchildren ~ Willie (Tiamont), Damon, Emilio, Nisaa, John (Corey), Mikal, Craig, Rhonda, Wazir, Brian, Tremaine, Lamonda, Lamont (Face), Travis, Shukriyyah, Larissa (Reecy), Litreece (Treecy), Yusuf, Billy, Lauren, Joseph (Joe Joe), Laelah, Joanna and Kenya; forty-three great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; four brothers ~ Milton (Bernice), Steve (Betty), Ronald (Tracy) and Wardell (Josett); four sisters ~ Bernice, Georgetta, Elvira (Tabb) and Alice; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
